The Whoop Up Trail
For 5 or so years before the NWMP were formed and arrived in Alberta in 1874, whiskey traders had a hay day in this mostly unsettled territory. Here's a note from a whiskey trader to his pal, illustrating how little a life was worth on the early Alberta frontier.

"Dear friend,
My partner, Will Geary, got to putting on airs, so I shot him dead. The potatoes is lookin' well.

Old West Rendezvous

Crafted by The Wired Web

The Province of Alberta, Canada was built around great ranches, 100s of thousands of cattle and by the skills of Cowboys. The great ranches are mostly gone now, cut up piece meal into smaller sections and quarters, and oil and natural gas have long been the source of Alberta's good fortune -and yet the legacy  of the cowboy lives on.
